Welcome!
Hello Second Graders and Families! Welcome to our classroom website. We're going to have a great year!
Announcements:
Tuesday, January 23rd
January Poems
January Poem presentations will take place Monday and Tuesday next week. If you need another copy, you can click here to access the poems via our website.
Legoland!
A gold information sheet went home with your kiddos yesterday detailing all important Legoland information for this Friday. If that copy didn't make it to you, you can find a digital copy on our website or by clicking here.
Scholastic Orders
I placed the Scholastic Orders and they are scheduled to get here before the end of the month, as planned.
Danny Ray "Night of Illusions"/Science Camp Fundraiser
A second showing of "A Night of Illusions" has opened up that makes it more possible for our second grade families to attend! There is now a showing at 6:30PM, which is around our estimated arrival time (via bus). If you are interested, you may get your ticket by clicking here. It will be an amazing show!
Thank you all for all you do! I will see many of you on Friday!
Happy October, Fantastic Families!
This first trimester is flying by! I wanted to provide a quick overview of upcoming events for the month for your convenience.
Poems
This month marks our first month of poem memorizing and reciting. If anything ever happens to the hard copy of the poem, there is a digital version of them all on our class website. If you would like to view the write-up of how the poem process works again, you may click here. We will begin presenting around the 25th of October.
Scholastic Book Orders
October Book Order catalogs went home on Monday. I'm planning on submitting these orders by Wednesday, October 18th this month to ensure they are here before the end of October. :) You can click here and type in the code Q23M3 to order online!
Box Tops
Box Tops are still being collected in class. Winning classes get a Popsicle Party! I think we're off to a great start. Thank you for your donations.
Make-up and All School Picture Day
We will be having make-up pictures on Thursday, October 12th. This will also be our all-school group picture day. We have picture envelopes written up already in the office for our absent kiddos that missed photos. My understanding is that if you would like your child to redo pictures, he/she does not need a picture envelope.
Spirit Week
We will be having our first Spirit Week of the year October 16th-20th. Keep an eye out on Parent Square and in our Classroom Newsletter for the specific themes for each day.
Blue and Gold Fridays
Each Friday we take a count of students wearing our school colors, blue and gold/yellow, or the school emblem on clothing. The class with the most participants wins the Lion!
Pajama Spirit Day
We will have Pajama Day on Tuesday, October 31st. For our class, I don't mind if your student wants to bring a stuffed toy on that day as long as they understand that they run the risk of it getting dirty or lost.
AR Goals
As this trimester comes to a close, so do our AR point goals. You can find your student's personalized AR point goal in his/her Blue Folder in a page protector. If your student has been keeping accurate logs of which books they're reading and testing on, you may also find their total points so far on that same page. If not, no worries! You may log in to the Parent Portal to see their progress toward their goal. Directions for doing that, if you haven't already, can be found on the reverse side of the AR Tracker in the same page protector in your student's Blue Folder.
Photographs
I would love to begin posting pictures of things we're doing in class on ParentSquare so you can get a peak in our room too! Look for permission slips with an opt-out option coming home some time this month.
I think that's about it for announcements for the month! I hope it's helpful and not overwhelming. I'm looking forward to another fantastic month with your sweet students!

Spelling Words
This week is our first week of spelling words! We're practicing and working with these words and sounds in class, but there are many things you can do to help your kiddo practice at home! To the right is a Spelling Menu with a plethora of creative ideas for practicing. These are in NO way a required activity but are simply meant to be a resource to help you help your kiddo at home, if you would like some ideas as to how to do that.
I will always post the spelling words online and in the Classroom Newsletter at the beginning of each week and we will always have a Spelling Test at the end of each week.
